What Sunday night is like here
Amsterdam on a Sunday night is a different city from the one the weekend visitors saw. Kitchens stop serving early, the squares thin out well before midnight, and by one in the morning the centre is quieter than at any other point in the week. Hotels are half empty, because the weekend has checked out and the business guests arrive on Monday. For a guest still in a room on Sunday night, that quiet reads two ways: peaceful if the week ahead is easy, and rather long if it is not.
