Whichever of her three languages you open in is the one she answers in, and at four in the morning that choice is rarely a deliberate one.
Ukrainian, Russian and English sit level with one another, and she no longer notices which one a conversation is running in. De Pijp shuts in stages, the terraces first, then the cyclists, then the last kitchen door somewhere around two, and she leaves at every point on that sequence.
